The present golf facility should not be changed. The only exception would be to create a permanent toilet in place of the temp one. All these new proposals WILL NOT increase more player participation to increase revenue.
Inadequate parking was stated! An example please! Also, NO new turf is needed.
It is a fact that the participation in the sport has diminished ALL OVER & spending these amounts will NOT increase revenue to Martin Co.
In my 32 yrs of golfing at MC, the MOST complaints were “just what was the reason that the restaurant/bar & lockers removed ”
Some say it was condemned because of mold.
Well, what an excuse – meaning, what would the cost be to replace the wall interior (sheet rock) & possibly roof since the construction was a concrete slab & CB walls.
Mold will not contaminate CB walls.
Again, compare the cost of renovation for the areas needed compare with these MULTI MILLION proposals. (I know, this is history)
My point – this surely was not thought out & sounds like someones pocket would be lined with a new construction proposal if you know what I mean.
Lastly, as a continued player & TAXPAYER, I am looking at logic here & would be looking forward for any replies.
The Martin County Public Golf course competes with several low-cost private and semi-public courses and as such, is an unfair subsidization which threatens the viability and employment of these clubs.
The MCGC should be reduced from 36 holes to 18 holes, with walking an option three days/week. The excess land (18 holes?) should be sold and part of the proceeds put in a trust for maintenance of the smaller course. A Club house and toilets should cost no more than $200/sq ft x 3000 ($600,000). The goal is not to outdo other area private courses; it should be to provide a low-cost “no-frills” golf experience for residents of Martin County. Non-residents should pay higher daily greens & cart fees.
